The Turkish Airlines World Golf Final stands with Lee Westwood pulling ahead of Tiger Woods by a stroke in the semi finals guaranteeing him $1m. This happened after McIlroy was beaten by Tiger that morning edging out his chances for the final prize of $1.5m. Westwood will now go up against Ryder Cup team mate Justin Rose for the grand prize. Westwood’s impressive 61 actually lowered the course’s record.

Although off to a slow start Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy were among the players. They both lost their opening matches keeping fans on their toes. The winner receives $1.5 million.

The world as a collective is figuring out that we can not continue to operate the way we have been and challenge the existence of natural resources for generations to come. There will a day that our natural resources run out if we do not take precautions today. The same is true for our environment as a whole. we have to care for the earth we live in so generations to come will have the same benefits we have enjoyed. This is the perfect time of year to enjoy a game we play all year long for many of us. When the ball hits the air we have to hope it goes our way when the wind currents take over. However, if we make a bad shot we can blame the wind! The importance on golf is everywhere even in our small community. I was surprised to learn when we moved to our small town that there was actually a golf course that employed a golf pro. He holds classes for those that wants to take them and he gives pointers to those that he spots with problems that he can give pointers to. In many ways it is helpful but in some ways it is like someone watching over your shoulder and puts added pressure on your game. Everyone wants to get out onto the course without hearing that whistle! He is a super nice guy but that whistle gets to you even if it is another golfer getting his helpful advice. When he is giving classes everyone that can tees off and gets on our way because the “coast is clear” as we put it. I have to admit it adds a bit of excitement to avoid getting the whistle!

When we went to the local course this weekend we were shocked to see that there was a full course. Everyone is taking advantage of the cooler weather. For those of us that have stood in the extreme heat to enjoy our favorite sport it can be disheartening to see the crowds. Over crowded courses can slow your game down if the club does not space tee times. Fortunately, our club is very aware of spacing which can make getting a tee time tricky.

For all of you golf lovers out there the PGA Championship is being played this weekend. Being one of the major golf tournaments this one will certainly draw the crowds even though there is a lot of rain that has stopped round three.
